Jozy Altidore believes Paolo Di Canio's summer signings will come good but has called on Sunderland fans to be patient with them.
USA international Altidore is one of nine players who have moved to the Stadium of Light this summer as Di Canio attempts to put his stamp on the Black Cats squad.
The Italian tactician hope his new recruits will help Sunderland avoid another relegation dogfight this season but some questions have been raised over whether the summer arrivals can adapt to the Premier League.
Only Altidore and Vito Mannone have any Premier League experience and there is a risk the Wearsiders will make a slow start to the 2013/14 campaign as the summer signings adjust.
Altidore admits it is possible Sunderland won't hit the ground running this season but believes the current squad can make the Stadium of Light faithful proud in the long run.
"I think the supporters should be excited but patient," said the former AZ Alkmaar striker.
"A lot of the guys we've bought in have come from a lot of different football cultures and different styles.
"The Premier League is famous for being a fast-paced and exciting league and it will take an adjustment, for sure. They should be patient about that but it's right they're excited, because I think this is a team they can be proud of."
