Laudrup hopeful over winger's return

Swansea are hoping winger Pablo Hernandez will boost their injury-hit squad by being fit for the FA Cup fourth-round tie at Birmingham.

The Spaniard has not featured for the Swans since he suffered a hamstring injury in the New Year's Day home defeat against Manchester City, but there's a possibility he could return for the trip to St Andrew's on Saturday.

If he does it will give boss Michael Laudrup a major boost given that Leon Britton is his only fit midfielder after Jonjo Shelvey joined the likes of Jonathan de Guzman and Nathan Dyer on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury against Tottenham.

Michu, Michel Vorm, Jose Canas and Garry Monk are also carrying injuries so Laudrup's options will be limited for the game against Lee Clark's Championship side who defeated the Swans 3-1 in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season.

Despite the growing injury list at the Liberty Stadium and some massive Premier League games against fellow strugglers Fulham, West Ham, Cardiff, Stoke and Crystal Palace on the horizon, the Dane is keen to progress in the FA Cup.

"The next game is in the cup rather than the league, and I hope to win that as well even though it will not give us three points," he told the Evening Post.

"It will give us a pass to the next round which is great as well. It's a competition I want to do well and we will do everything we can to try to win the game.

"You know how I feel about the cups."
