Monk looking for Swans reaction

Swansea manager Garry Monk is hoping that his players can bounce back against Crystal Palace after being dumped out of Europe.

The Swans put in a valiant effort against Napoli on Thursday and were close to progressing further in the tournament having held the Italians at 1-1 for most of the game, however late goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Gokhan Inler ended the Welsh side's hopes.

The defeat has come as a bitter disappointment to the Premier League outfit, but Monk is hoping they can bounce back to winnings ways when they take on Palace on Sunday.

Exit from the Europa League may come as a blessing in disguise for Swansea, whose league form has suffered due to the extra games played this season, and the team sit just four points clear of 18th-placed Sunderland in 13th position in the Premier League table.

A win for the Swans would improve their standing considerably and would go some way to ensuring Premier League safety, something Monk is fully focused on.

"The idea is to take the disappointment from going out of the competition into Sunday's game," he said. "Hopefully we will get the reaction that we want after our disappointment, I will request my players give one last mammoth effort before we get a two-week break."

Swansea have particularly struggled to keep out the goals this season, having already shipped 40, the fifth worst record in the league, and punters may decide to use their free bet now and back Crystal Palace to claim what would be only their third away victory of the campaign.

Monk has admitted he may make several changes for the game due to the intensity of the clash with Napoli on Thursday.

"As I've said before, it's impossible for me to play the same 11 players every single game in this period. We've had a lot of games, with the Palace game it will be seven games in 21 days, which is a lot to take on for a player, physically," he added.
