Real Betis say Swansea must increase their offer for Jose Canas if they want to sign the midfielder this month, otherwise he will stay.
It has been claimed that the Swans have agreed a pre-contract deal with the 25-year-old, who will see his existing contract expire with the La Liga club at the end of the season.
Michael Laudrup is known to be a big admirer of Canas and is understood to be keen to do a deal to take him to the Liberty Stadium during January's transfer window.
But Betis have been keen to state that they would rather keep him until the summer and have told the Premier League outfit that they will need to pay what they feel is a suitable price.
Betis boss Pepe Mel, who has led his side to fifth place so far this season, said: "It has been decided, unless Swansea say something different, that Canas stays here until June 30."
