Swansea have joined the hunt to sign Benfica winger Ola John but face strong competition from Liverpool and Ajax.
Ajax were widely expected to complete a loan deal for the 21-year-old, with Frank de Boer reportedly offering a fee around the £600,000 mark to secure the services of the player until the end of the season.
However, the potential switch has now been thrown into doubt following interest from the Swans and Liverpool, who are both looking to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.
The Swans are precariously placed 13th in the table, just four points clear of the relegation places, and the loan signing of John could be exactly what the club needs to help move away from the bottom.
Michael Laudrup is also looking at alternatives should his attempts to sign Tom Ince from Blackpool fall flat.
