Vorm happy to be a team player

Michel Vorm insists he harbours no lingering sense of Wembley disappointment as he prepares to return in goal against Newcastle.

Vorm has been Swansea's undisputed number one since arriving from FC Utrecht for a bargain £1.5million fee in the summer of 2011, impressing with his superb agility and shot-stopping ability.

The Dutchman's performances meant his deputy Gerhard Tremmel spent the majority of last season as a spectator, making just five appearances.

But Vorm was frustrated by injury as a groin problem suffered at Manchester City in October kept him sidelined for almost two months.

Tremmel took his chance to impress, and manager Michael Laudrup had no hesitation in sticking with the German for the latter stages of the Capital One Cup campaign, having entrusted him with the gloves in the early rounds of the competition.

That meant Vorm was reduced to a watching brief at Wembley last weekend as Swansea secured their first major piece of silverware with an emphatic 5-0 win over Bradford.

Vorm has shipped five himself in the defeat to Liverpool at Anfield the previous weekend, and admits it has been a difficult couple of weeks, but is prepared to put personal glory aside for the greater good as he takes over between the sticks.

He said: "Like every player, I would have loved to have played in the final. But I knew a long time before that Gerhard would have the gloves.

"I was pleased for him as he hasn't played that much over the last two seasons because of me, which couldn't have been easy.

"But he deserved his place because he's done really well this season. He's proved what he's capable of and had every right to earn himself a new contract. Although I didn't play, I still enjoyed the atmosphere and the occasion. I loved it and felt the same as those that played because at this club we are all in it together."
