Murray upbeat for French Open challenge

Andy Murray feels he can win the French Open this season as long as his preparation is spot on in the lead-up to the event.

The 25-year-old kicked off his season with a creditable performance in reaching the Australian Open final, only to lose to an inspired Novak Djokovic.

But last year's triumph at the Olympics and in the US Open meant that the British number one finished the year's first Grand Slam in a positive frame of mind, despite his third defeat in the Melbourne final.

Many pundits feel that, of the four Grand Slams, the French Open is the one that the Scot might struggle to win, as the slower surface does not suit his style of play as much as the harder courts.

But the world number three is adamant that he can succeed at Roland Garros and will schedule his season accordingly.

"I believe I have a chance of winning the French Open," he said. "But to do that I need to prepare and use every single day as best as I can.

"That's why, unfortunately, I decided not to play Davis Cup this time. I will play the match in September and I'll be available for that.

"I've realised over the years that I play my best when I have time to prepare for each tournament as best as possible."
