Torquay chairman Mike Bateson has moved quickly to blast reports suggesting he has sold the club.

The Gulls pulled off the great escape on the final day of the season to stay in League Two but speculation has been mounting suggesting Bateson is ready to bail out of the club.

Bateson says that is not the case and is instead focusing his efforts on trying to keep Ian Atkins at the club.

Bateson said: "I honestly don't know who thinks these things up. I was telephoned to be asked if I had sold the club. It astounds me. "I just cannot imagine where people get these ideas.

"Do they sit around thinking them up? If they do they must have more time on their hands than I do. I'm too busy here."
