Chairman Mike Bateson has dismissed claims Ian Atkins has quit the club, insisting his absence has been due to a family bereavement.

Rumour mongers had suggested the former Bristol Rovers boss, employed as a football advisor to boss John Cornforth, had walked out of Plainmoor following a bust-up behind the scenes.

"Ian's father-in-law has been seriously ill and sadly died on Thursday, so he has taken a couple of days off," Bateson told the club's official website.

"But he will be at Plainmoor on Saturday.

"Ian is contracted until the last game is over - and barring a decent permanent job offer from elsewhere, he will be staying."
