Torquay boss Martin Ling says he cannot afford to invest in new players during the January transfer window despite his underperforming side's recent slide.
The Gulls, who are still without the injured trio of Ryan Jarvis, Lloyd Macklin and Ian Morris, are now 15th in npower League Two after defeat to struggling AFC Wimbledon at Plainmoor on Tuesday extended their winless run to four games.
But Ling believes a number of the club's supporters need to be realistic when it comes to improving their squad.
"Let's get real, there's a few fans saying we have to go out into the market," Ling told BBC Radio Devon.
"We've got money to go out and get a loan player, we haven't got money to go out into the market.
"We're not the type of club that can get four or five players in and bomb four or five of our players out."
Torquay are out of the FA Cup having been beaten by Harrogate Town so they are without a game until a trip to Barnet on January 12.
