Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has indicated he is keen to sign Barcelona star David Villa in the summer.
Spurs have been tipped to make a 12million euro move for the Spanish international who is eager to leave Camp Nou in search of regular first-team football.
Villas-Boas tried to sign Villa during his brief spell as Chelsea manager and the Portuguese coach hopes to convince the forward to join him at Spurs in the summer.
"He is a world-renowned striker, one of the world's best," Villas-Boas told the Independent.
"His tally of goals in Valencia was impressive. When he got to Barcelona he played off the channels because [Lionel] Messi started going through the middle, but still with a good record of goals in his first season, until he broke his leg.
"He was a player that I always had a good relationship with, from the times in Chelsea, because I tried to move him away to Chelsea."
Spurs are likely to face plenty of competition for Villa but their chances of completing a deal will be boosted if they manage to secure Champions League qualification.
