Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he was happy to see Gareth Bale get booked for diving on Thursday night.

The win over Inter Milan sees Spurs take a big step towards the Europa League quarter finals but Bale's booking means he will miss the return in Italy.

Bale was booked for diving in the first half but Villas-Boas was not too unhappy as he should now be clear for the later stages of the competition, presuming Spurs progress.

"It is a difficult decision for the ref," the Tottenham manager said.

"I won't build on that case. I don't want to go into that, we have a wonderful player to enjoy and it is ridiculous if we go on like that.

"He is obviously a great miss but to be fair, probably with this result we would have asked him to get the yellow card to be clean and ready for the last eight."
