Birmingham have pulled the plug on a move to sign Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fiorentina are now keen.

The Blues are reported to have failed with a £10million swoop for the Russian international and boss Alex McLeish has revealed they will not be going back with an improved bid.

Italian outfit Fiorentina are now said to be keen on the player and the Midlands club ready to look elsewhere for extra firepower.

McLeish said: "I think we are going to leave that one now. I'm trying to help up front and I think we could do with another body up front.

"I have to think seriously over the next 48 hours whether we break the bank or we get somebody in who can help out until the end of the season, possibly a loan."
