Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Brad Friedel will start in goal against Lyon in the Europa League and not Hugo Lloris.

The France number one joined from Lyon last summer and was looking forward to facing his old team-mates but it's Friedel who gets the nod.

Jermain Defoe remains on the sidelines because of his ankle injury so Emmanuel Adebayor will lead the line for the first time since finally returning from the African Nations Cup.

Long-term absentees Sandro and Younes Kaboul remain sidelined, but the latter should be available again in around two weeks' time.
