Tottenham Hotspur youngster Tom Carroll says it was important for him to go out on loan to secure more game time this season.
The 21-year-old was released on loan to Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the summer transfer window to join up with former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
Carroll is a highly-rated starlet at White Hart Lane and is expected to work his way into the Tottenham midfield in seasons to come.
However, the England Under-21 international has admitted it would be tough to earn a regular place in the Spurs starting XI this season with so many new faces coming through the doors at The Lane this summer.
Instead, Carroll has decided to take a step down to the Championship and feels his loan deal at Loftus Road will be beneficial at this early stage of his career.
He said: "I could have stayed at Spurs and sat on the bench but at this stage of my career I feel I need to be playing."
