Sunderland have completed the signing Tottenham defender Alan Hutton on loan for the rest of the season.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce managed to beat the deadline by minutes to land the former Rangers man who will stay at the Stadium of Light for the rest of the campaign with a view to a permanent move.

Bruce first expressed an interest in the Scotland international last summer when Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand was linked with a move the other way.

If Hutton impresses Bruce will pursue a £3million permanent switch in the summer.
