Pain in Spain for Ramos

TottenhamTottenham failed with a deadline-day move for Real Betis new-boy Sergio Garcia, according to his former Real Zaragoza team-mate.

Spain international Garcia was unveiled in front of his new club's supporters at Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera after rejecting the chance to join countryman Juande Ramos in his new-look strikeforce at White Hart Lane on the last day of transfer dealings.

"He asked me if Betis would be a good destination," former team-mate Ricardo Oliviera revealed to ABC. "I knew he had other options, including Tottenham and some other offers.

"But I told him if he received an offer from Betis he should forget the other ones. Sergio wanted to remain in Spain and the Betis opportunity was a good one."

Betis chairman Jose Leon added: "He [Sergio Garcia] made clear he wanted to join Betis."
