Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has identified Gareth Bale as his top transfer target, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The Spanish giants have been linked with winger Bale on a number of occasions and the latest reports in Spain suggest Real will make a move in January.
Mourinho is believed to have met with Madrid president Florentino Perez to discuss a move for the Welshman and Real could step up their interest with a bid in January.
Bale is under contract at White Hart Lane until 2016 and Spurs are unlikely to entertain any offers under £50million for their star man.
Real and Spurs signed a partnership agreement last summer, when Luka Modric moved to the Santiago Bernabeu, and the Spanish side will hope their relationship with the north Londoners can help them clinch a deal.
Bale has never given any indication that he is looking to leave Tottenham, having only recently signed a contract extension, but he has admitted he would like to play in Spain at some point in his career.
However, Real will have to sell before they can afford to launch a raid for Bale and the likes of Kaka and Mezut Ozil have already been suggested as players who could be sacrificed to fund a move for the Welshman.
