Harry Redknapp is uncertain how severe the ankle injury Gareth Bale picked up against Blackpool is, but said that 'it looks quite bad'.

The Spurs chief was left concerned after the PFA Player of the Year was stretchered off after being sandwiched by Keith Southern and Charlie Adam 62 minutes into Saturday evening's 1-1 draw against Ian Holloway's struggling Tangerines at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp, who was unhappy with the challenge on Bale, confirmed that the Wales international will undergo a scan on Monday to assess how serious the injury is. But, the fact he left the ground wearing a protective boot suggests he could miss Spurs' remaining games, including Tuesday's massive clash at top-four rivals Manchester City at Eastlands.

Redknapp said: "He has done his ankle, it looks quite bad. We are not sure whether he has done his ligament or something. They are checking up on him but it is quite swollen."

He added: "It looked a bad challenge, to be fair. But that is how it goes.

"They will scan him for sure and see how it is. It might not be so bad. He might have done his ligament, it may just be a twist. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see."
