Tottenham have given their full and public backing to head coach Tim Sherwood following the defeat to Chelsea.
There have been constant links with a host of managers ready to take over from Sherwood if the club decide to part company with him in the future and the head coach said at the weekend that the silence from the Spurs board was deafening about his future.
But, according to the London Evening Standard, Spurs have pointed out they have never said that Sherwood needed to qualify for the Champions League and that will not be a decisive factor in whether or not he stays at the club.
It has also been pointed out that Sherwood, who has claimed he could never be an assistant manager because he is too outspoken, has a contract which runs until the end of next season.
