Spurs have revealed that new signing Etienne Capoue has not broken his leg, but the midfielder is set to be missing for four weeks.
There were fears that the France midfielder, who was stretchered off in the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, had suffered a fracture but, following some early scans, that is not the case.
Capoue though is still facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and the injury has also caused him to pull out of the France squad for their World Cup qualifiers this week.
In a statement, Tottenham explained: "Early indications suggest the France international will be unavailable for a period of four weeks."
The international break does give him more time to recover, as Tottenham don't now have a game until Saturday September 14, when Andre Villas Boas' men entertain Norwich.
