Tottenham are said to have agreed a deal with Barcelona striker David Villa over a move to White Hart Lane.
The two sides have yet to agree a price for the player, but it is unlikely that Spurs will offer the £8.6m that Barca want for him especially with his contract entering its final year.
Villa is said to earn around the £110,000 a week mark and Barca do not want to find themselves paying out that sort of money to a player who is not going to feature on a regular basis and who will walk away for nothing next summer, so Spurs are in the driving seat.
Meanwhile ,pre-season training starts on Monday, although fans will have to wait a while longer to see recent signing Paulinho, as he has been given an extended rest after winning the Confederations Cup with Brazil.
