Spurs eye Benfica raid

Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan is a reported January transfer window target for Tottenham.

The 25-year-old Argentina international has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past, but they moved on to other targets such as Cesc Fabregas, before also failing to land Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera ahead of the 11pm September 2 deadline.

However a report on Tuttomercatoweb is suggesting that Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is casting an eye towards Gaitan and could be tempted to make a bid for the £25million-rated player when the window re-opens for business on January 1.

Spurs spent £107million on seven new players after bringing in a world record £85million from Real Madrid for the services of Gareth Bale. Therefore it is not known if Villas-Boas would feel the need to further add to his ranks or if United boss David Moyes will resurrect his interest in the New Year as he looks to add to his playmaker options at Old Trafford.
