Tottenham have been linked with a summer move for Sunderland midfielder Adam Johnson and are preparing a £9m bid according to reports.
The 26-year-old has been in fine form of late for the troubled Black Cats which has brought him to the attention of a host of interested parties of which Spurs are now said to be one.
Liverpool and Everton have also been linked with the wide man, as well as Spurs, and much could depend on who finishes where in the Premier League this season.
If Sunderland stay up they will be very reluctant to allow Johnson to leave but if they were to succumb to the drop then the vultures would start to circle and, if any of the interested clubs had Champions League football to offer, it would put them at the front of the queue.
Tim Sherwood's own position at White Hart Lane would reportedly be in doubt if they were to fail in their efforts to land Champions League football.
