Spurs made a late bid to land former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato on deadline day, according to his club Corinthians.
The Brazilian international only moved back to South America last January after injury and a loss of form had seen his spell in Italy turn sour, but they still had to cough up 15m euros for him.
Spurs apparently were not willing to match that money and offered less than the amount Corinthians paid for the player so the deal never got off the ground, but he would have offered an interesting option for Andre Villas-Boas' side.
Despite his disappointing last season in Italy, Pato is still only 24 so he could regain the sort of form that made him a star at AC originally and if he were to get back into the Brazilian national side 15m euros could seem a bargain in a year's time.
