Tottenham are being linked with a summer move for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen who is keen on a move to England.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was in attendance at Old Trafford last week for the Europa League tie between Manchester United and Ajax and it has been reported that he was keeping an eye on the defender.
Redknapp is constantly looking to improve his squad and he needs to add to a defence that has been hit hard by injury problems over the past season so a move for Vertonghen is now out of the question, whether Redknapp was impressed enough to make a summer move for the player remains to be seen.
Vertonghen himself would be keen on the move to England and to Spurs in particular, when asked if he was aware of their interest, Vertonghen told the Express: "This is a fantastic club. You can see how well they do this season. They are in the top three in England and that is where I want to play."
Tottenham are short of cover at the back which has prompted them to recall Adam Smith from his loan spell at Leeds United.
