Tottenham are believed to be tracking Twente defender Douglas as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.
Experienced stopper William Gallas is widely tipped for a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer and he could be followed out of the door by Younes Kaboul.
Clearly a double departure would leave Spurs a little light in the heart of defence and with that in mind, boss Andre Villas-Boas has instructed the club's scouts to identify possible replacements.
The Brazilian-born centre-back is one of those players who has been watched on a number of occasions in recent weeks, after previously attracting interest from Newcastle.
Porto's £17m-rated Eliaquim Mangala is another option under consideration, but Douglas would be more appealing as he is falling out of contract and would be available on a free transfer.
Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also keen on him though, and could scupper Villas-Boas' hopes of adding the Twente man to compete with Jan Vertonghen, Steven Caulker and Michael Dawson for a place in his first-team.
