Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is understood to be lining up a move for Inter Milan full-back Alvaro Pereira.
Villas-Boas knows the Uruguay international from their time working together at Porto and is a big admirer of his ability.
Spurs have already been busy in the transfer window, spending a sizeable amount of the fee expected to be brought in by the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid on Monday.
The north London club have drafted in Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Vlad Chiriches, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue.
The Premier League side were linked with Pereira earlier in the summer and Inter have confirmed that they will allow him to leave if the price is right.
However, Tottenham will face competition from Turkish giants Galatasaray, who have also expressed an interest in the 27-year-old.
The former Porto and Chelsea boss has revealed that he would like to strengthen the full-back position with question marks over the future of Benoit Assou-Ekotto and youngster Danny Rose still adapting to life back at White Hart Lane following a successful loan season at Sunderland.
