Spurs' hopes of landing Alvaro Negredo from Spanish side Sevilla have been dealt a blow as Manchester City close in on a deal.
City are on the brink of agreeing a £23million deal to sign the Spanish hitman, with the two clubs in talks for over a fortnight and it looks like the transfer of the 27-year-old could be announced before the weekend.
Sevilla wanted almost £30million for their top scorer, who has netted 70 goals in 139 La Liga appearances for the Andalusian club over the past four seasons, and that was always going to be a tall order for Andre Villas-Boas to match.
But City have been able to get him for slightly less, with additional clauses potentially taking the total outlay to nearer £25million if Negredo helps them win back the Premier League title and tastes success in the Champions League.
