Striker bid doomed to fail

TottenhamTottenham's attempts to land Emile Heskey in January look doomed after the striker insisted he is happy at Wigan.

The England international was in demand over the summer and Tottenham are thought to have failed with a deadline-day bid, while Villa are also known to be keen.

Villa and Tottenham could both go back in when the window opens again but Wigan owner Dave Whelan admitted he would only contemplate selling Heskey if the former Liverpool man wanted to quit.

Heskey, though, has pledged to see out his deal which expires next summer.

"This season is the last on my contract," Heskey told The Telegraph. "The chairman came to see me and said he had a few offers and said until I come and see him he is not going to entertain those offers.

"But I am not going to go and see him."
