Spurs' hopes of having Emmanuel Adebayor back and ready to face Newcastle have hit a snag because he remains in South Africa.

His country, Togo, were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations last weekend at the quarter-finals stage but Adebayor and his team-mates have not left South Africa yet due to what is being described as transport issues.

It is now being reported that they will not leave until Friday meaning.

The striker will not have had any training with the north Londoners ahead of the clash with Newcastle on Saturday, although boss Andre Villas-Boas may have little option but to throw him straight into the first team with fellow striker Jermain Defoe likely to be out injured.

Defoe limped out of the win at West Brom with an ankle knock and is a major doubt for the visit of Alan Pardew's men.
