Robbie Keane has revealed he had to leave Tottenham and join Celtic because he had become miserable in north London.

The Republic of Ireland captain has found first team opportunities limited since he rejoined Tottenham after his brief spell at Liverpool and following the arrival of Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan looked unlikely to establish himself in Harry Redknapp's first eleven.

While Keane reportedly had the chance to join former club Wolves the 29-year-old opted for a loan move to Celtic, the team he supported as a boy, for the rest of the season.

Despite losing his first game with Celtic Keane believes he made the right move and says he is just happy to be playing first team football again.

"At the end of the day, I just like playing football," said Keane.

"It's as simple as that. I love playing football.

"When I'm not playing, I am miserable and I miss it. So that's the reason why I am here."
