Tottenham's hopes of landing long-term target Leandro Damiao look to be fading after he revealed a preference for Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old Brazilian striker has been a target for successive Tottenham managers, Harry Redknapp tried to land him last January and the previous summer when a £14m bid was rejected.

Current boss Andre Villas-Boas is also very keen and he was expected to renew the club's interest in January but the Internacional striker has revealed he is not thinking about a move to Europe and when he does Real Madrid are his preferred target.

"Now is not the moment to be thinking of playing in Europe. I just want to continue improving and scoring goals," he told UOL.

"However, every footballer dreams of playing at a club such as Real Madrid but I'm only 23 and there is plenty of time to take that step forward.

"I have a contract and I love it here and don't feel the need to move away right now. Even so, it's obvious that the day will come when I will leave Brazil to go and play in Europe."
