Tottenham may go with Gareth Bale as an out-and-out striker against Newcastle at the weekend, depending on Emmanuel Adebayor.

Togo striker Adebayor is not expected to return from the African Nations Cup until Friday afternoon, despite Togo being knocked out last weekend, so he faces a late fitness test but may not be ready to play.

England striker Jermain Defoe is also out injured and faces up to six weeks out with ankle ligament damage.

Midfielder Sandro and defender Younes Kaboul (both knee) are unavailable, although the latter will start training again on Monday with a view to being fit in a fortnight.
