Newcastle are reported to be lining up a summer swoop for Steven Caulker but Tottenham may not be willing to sell the defender.

The 20-year-old is impressing while on loan at Swansea this season and his form has not gone unnoticed by Toon boss Alan Pardew, who is looking to sign a young central defender this summer.

Pardew has already been linked with West Ham defender James Tomkins, who he tried to sign in January, but now he could turn his attentions to Caulker.

However, a move could fall flat after Swans boss Brendan Rodgers said there is no way Tottenham would consider letting him leave White Hart Lane on a permanent basis.

There is a chance that Spurs could agree to another loan deal next season but that would make Swansea favourites to land him after the way they have looked after the youngster this season.
