Uruguayan to move to Spurs

TottenhamTottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an £18million move for former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan.

The Atletico Madrid hitman is seen by manager Juande Ramos as an ideal replacement for the departed Robbie Keane.

It is thought Spurs have seen one bid of £18million rejected but they could make a move with an improved offer for the Uruguayan international.

Forlan had a difficult time at Manchester United but has been in great form since his move to Spain, scoring 54 goals in 106 appearances for Villarreal before moving to Madrid where he scored 16 in 36 games last season.

This is the sort of form which has attracted Ramos to the 29-year-old, despite his previous experiences in the Premier League.

However, any move for the frontman could hinge on whether or not the Madrid side qualify for the Champions League ahead of their qualifier with German side Schalke 04.

Should the Spanish outfit progress it is unlikely that Forlan would leave to join Spurs but he does have respect for manager Juande Ramos.

Forlan said: "I am pleased that I am still recognised in England, but now my challenge and dream is with Atletico in the Champions League.

"I have an excellent opinion of Juande Ramos, but I am not interested in leaving."
