Vertonghen in line for reward

Tottenham ace Jan Vertonghen is set to be handed a new deal at the club in an effort to keep him at White Hart Lane.

The Belgian international has been outstanding during the present campaign but is said to be on the relatively modest wage of £40,000 a week at the Lane.

That has alerted clubs across Europe who are anxious to land him if they can but Spurs are set to move quickly and offer the international, who is 20 months into a four-year deal at the club, much improved terms to keep him.

Head coach Tim Sherwood is known to be a big fan of the defender and is hoping he will stay but reports claim his final decision could come down to whether or not Spurs qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season.
