Defender deal latest

WatfordWatford are set to press ahead with a deal for Dunfermline's Soulaymane Bamba despite knowing they will lose him for up to a month.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd is keen to secure the services of the strapping centre-back who impressed in a recent trial match at the club, but his Scottish club are holding out for a six-figure fee.

Pars Director of Football Jim Leishman says the Hornets are the only club in the running at the moment for a player who has been called up by Ivory Coast for their Olympic Games squad.

"He's off to Paris and after that he's going to China for the Olympics with the Ivory Coast so if clubs showed an interest the manager said he'd be prepared to let him go," said Leishman.

"We told him [Bamba] we'd let him know if teams were interested in him. Watford are the only ones to get in touch with us and we'll see what happens."

Bamba was one of the stars of the Toulon Tournament in May, where he is believed to have caught Boothroyd's eye and earned a trial at Vicarage Road.
