Watford hope to sign free agent Scott Severin this week after scouting the versatile Scotland international for the last six months.
New Hornets boss Malky Mackay is set to add the versatile 15-cap man to his squad at Vicarage Road in time for pre-season training next month.
Severin can cover midfield, central defence and right-back while he has also played up front for both Hearts and Aberdeen.
Mackay told the BBC: It's something we hope to get done very, very soon. I went up and had a look at him myself and we had scouts watching him for the last six months or so.
"I've spoken to a lot of people up in Scotland about him and I've met him, and he's certainly someone who has impressed me in terms of his character."
