West Brom are ready to step up their interest in Lille's former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou.
Boss Steve Clarke is keen to capture the forward before the Baggies head to Austria for a pre-season training camp next week and is ready to make his move.
Kalou has a £2.6million release clause in his contract that West Brom are prepared to meet, although the player's wages could prove a stumbling block.
However, a lack of European football is believed to be the 27-year-old's biggest concern regarding a move to the Hawthorns but the recent arrival of Nicolas Anelka and the fact Kalou and Clarke have worked together before, at Chelsea, could aid West Brom's chances of convincing him to return to the Premier League.
