Italian outfit Lazio are being linked with a surprise swoop for West Brom striker Shane Long in this transfer window.

The Serie A side are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Tommaso Rocchi from the Stadio Olimpico.

And it appears that Albion's Republic of Ireland international hitman, Long, is the man they have identified as his replacement.

Reports claims Lazio will offer the Baggies around 7million euros for Long, who has scored five goals in 15 Premier League appearances so far this season.

However boss Steve Clarke would not be willing to lose such an influential member of his squad without a fight and is certain to rebuff any advances from Lazio.

Even if he did ponder selling Long during the course of this month he would want significantly more than what the Italians are putting on the table which is virtually what they paid out to Reading for the 25-year-old's signature in summer 2011.
