Baggies ace makes shock boast

NewsWest Brom striker Roman Bednar says he has better facets to his game than Cristiano Ronaldo and wants his team-mates to be more direct.

The 25-year-old Czech Republic hitman joined the Baggies from Hearts in a £2.3million switch during the summer and made his mark in the last game before the international break when he grabbed the winner against Fulham at the Hawthorns.

Bednar is now eagerly awaiting the Premier League's return this weekend when Tony Mowbray's side travel to Old Trafford where they will look to stun reigning champions Manchester United and claim a third succesive win.

In addition to trying to pull off a shock result, Bednar is also looking to put last season's Premier League top scorer and Player of the Year, Ronaldo, to shame when going head-to-head.

"I always want to be myself," he told The Times. "I think I have something special that no one else has.

"I know Ronaldo is fast - he scores goals, has a great technique, everything - but I am still a different player and I can in some ways be better than him.

"When the supporters come to our stadium, I think they see something special in me."

Punters willing to support Bednar's huge confidence in his own abilities could be tempted to take advantage of some excellent odds and use their £25 free bet to back him for the Premier League's golden boot this season.

In the meantime Bednar has also urged his team-mates to cut down on over playing and try to be more direct as he looks to get more goals which will, in turn, help the side avoid being dragged into a relegation fight this season.

He added: "The boys play really good football and they can do it, but not all the time, boys, please. Sometimes it doesn't look as if we'll score.

"The striker is waiting for the chance.

"Sometimes the simple pass is the best pass; sometimes we should vary it and maybe play it forward more quickly.

"We play 25 passes and it's nice to watch, but I say, 'Give me a pass - I want to play, too'. I want us to score. I want to score."
