Jonas Olsson has flown to Sweden to see a specialist instead of lining up for West Brom in Tuesday night's friendly match in Cork.
The 30-year-old has made a brief trip to his homeland to visit the specialist in a bid to avoid any more lay-offs with his troublesome Achilles tendon.
However, the club are not concerned by his absence and say he is fully fit for the start of the new campaign.
New signing Diego Lugano will not figure in Ireland despite travelling with the squad that flew from Birmingham airport for the match.
Gabriel Tamas has also been ruled out with a knee injury.
Head coach Steve Clarke said: "We thought it would be wise to be proactive for Jonas. We're hoping to help him manage the workload his body will be taking on."
