Lyon forward Jimmy Briand claims West Brom are keen to sign him, but the French international would like to stay with his current club.
The 27-year-old struggled for first-team action last season, which has led to summer speculation that he will be on the move, but he has played down those suggestions.
Briand has revealed that Steve Clarke has spoken to Lyon about the prospect of signing him, but he insists a move is not something he is seeking at this stage.
The former Rennes man, who cost Lyon in the region of £5million when he joined in 2010, has had no guarantees though over his future and is waiting to hear what Lyon have to say.
Briand conceded: "In 15 games last season I scored only one goal. That is not the kind of return I was expecting and there is some disappointment in that.
"Lyon are a great club, though, and I want to continue here unless I am deemed surplus to requirements. I know West Brom have asked about me, but nothing has been done as yet. Let's wait and see what happens."
