Baggies miss out with striker bid

West BromBaggies boss Tony Mowbray has failed in a bid to sign giant striker Tom De Sutter from Belgium side Cercle Brugge.

The boss is putting the finishing touches to his squad as the transfer window comes to a close and he was hoping to land the highly rated 23-year-old before the window shut.

Cercle Brugge president Frans Schotte confirmed they had turned down a bid from West Brom, thought to be worth in the region of £1.85m, for De Sutter as they do not want to lose the player.

"It was a lot of money but we are not prepared to let Tom go," Schotte told Het Nieuwsblad.

De Sutter admitted he was disappointed not to get the move, "Ultimately, it is the Premier League, something that every footballer dreams about."
