West Brom are reportedly the new front-runners in the race to sign striker Salomon Kalou from Lille.
The Ivory Coast international joined the French club on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer, scoring 14 goals in his first season in Ligue 1.
The 27-year-old is keen to return to England though, sparking interest from a number of Premier League sides.
West Ham were the early favourites to land Kalou after agreeing a £4million fee with Lille for the player.
However, according to the Daily Mirror, the Hammers have pulled out of a deal because Kalou is demanding he is played as a central striker next season, a request the London club feel they cannot accommodate.
That leaves the coast clear for Baggies boss Steve Clarke to wrap up a deal for Kalou, who worked with the Scot during their time at Stamford Bridge.
However, given Clarke has Nicolas Anelka and Shane Long already at his disposal it remains to be seen whether he will cave in to Kalou's demands.
