Baggies new boy eyes Three Lions spot

West BromScott Carson is hopes to press for a place in the England side after ending his stint as a loan player by signing for West Brom.

The 22-year-old secured a £3.25million switch from Liverpool to the Hawthorns last week after being linked with a number of clubs throughout the close-season. And, after spending last term on loan at Aston Villa - a third successive campaign away from Anfield on a temporary basis - Carson now hopes to get settled at the Baggies and fight his way back into the Three Lions squad.

The former Leeds man has been left out of coach Fabio Capello's previous two squads, while he is still trying to shake off the stigma from his nightmare display against Croatia at Wembley last year as England lost 3-2 and failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

He said: "I just want to get settled now. I've been like a nomad for the last three or four years, going out on loan to three different clubs from Liverpool.

"It will be good to get some roots down and hopefully settle. I can see myself being here for four or five years, even longer than that.

"That's what I want. I did not want to go somewhere and then, after one or two years, not be happy.

"I think I am good enough to get back in the England squad. Hopefully I can settle down and get a bit of consistency and then I will be looking to get back in.

"No-one really said anything and I was left out of the squad at the end of the season but in fairness I didn't have the best couple of games for Villa before the squad was announced.

"That was fair enough. I took it on the chin. It just made me want to get back in the squad."
