Baggies ready to raid Blades

West BromWest Brom are reportedly lining up a £2million bid for Sheffield United midfielder Michael Tonge who Charlton also are said to want.

Boss Tony Mowbray is keen to boost his midfield this summer ahead of the new season after losing star player Zoltan Gera to Fulham earlier in the summer and it is thought Tonge fits the bill.

Tonge, 25, is a product of the Manchester United youth system and has made over 300 appearances for Sheffield United.

The talented midfielder has previously been linked with moves to Everton and Liverpool but has said he is happy at Bramall Lane.

But Charlton boss Alan Pardew could scupper Mowbray's move for Tonge as he plans his own £2million bid for the playmaker.

However, it is thought Tonge would relish the chance to play in the Premier League instead of moving to another Championship side.
