West Brom scouts watched Anderlecht's match against Club Brugge on Sunday with striker Matias Suarez thought to be their target.
The Baggies were linked to Suarez, 24, last season but did not enter the race to sign him after Anderlecht suggested they thought he was worth more than Romelu Lukaku - who they sold to Chelsea for £18million.
He was poised to join CSKA Moscow in a £11.3million deal last August, but the Russian side pulled the plug after he failed a medical.
The Argentinean forward has had an injury-hit campaign this year, returning in March after a nine-month absence and failing to find the scoresheet.
Reports in Brussels claim that Suarez is likely to sign a new contract with Anderlecht this summer as talks with his agent have already been scheduled, but Baggies officials may sense they could get a bargain.
Steve Clarke is on the lookout for a forward to replace Peter Odemwingie and Romelu Lukaku's likely departure also leaves a gaping hole to fill up front.
Suarez, who is set to get a Belgian passport this year and could elect to play internationally for the country, is able to play in both a wide forward role or a central striker berth.
