West Brom are set to announce Roberto Di Matteo as their new boss after he impressed chairman Jeremy Peace and the rest of the board.

Preston boss Alan Irvine had been widely expected to be named the new Baggies boss following the exit of Tony Mowbray to Celtic but, following a last minute twist, the former Chelsea player is to be handed the post after impressing during his interview.

It is reported that a compensation figure has already been agreed with the MK Dons and he is now just agreeing the finer details of his personal terms before the club make a formal announcement, expected tomorrow.

Former Chelsea colleague Eddie Newton, his assistant with the Dons, will join him in the same role at The Hawthorns.
